SPA Belgium – 17th June 2012 – Mike Turner
John and I headed to Spa looking forward to racing on what I feel is the best circuit we go too. After an uneventful trip we arrived at Spa ready to test on Thursday afternoon in preparation of the Sports 2000 Championship Enduro race. We both managed about 8 or 9 laps each to get to grips with the track again. What a great track!
Qualifying was a bit fraught John went out first and qualified well. On coming in to hand over Dave and Les noticed oil on the rear of the car. Unfortunately the oil catch tank was full and we couldn’t risk running the car. So no qualifying for me.
On Saturday problem fixed John drove a fine race in terrible conditions to come home 8th. A really good effort.
Sunday dawned fine and dry, so a good race looked in prospect. I was not disappointed! At last a decent start! A fantastic race ensued with 4 or 5 of us having a really good tussle. Amazingly after a bit of good fortune I found myself running in 3rd place. However, at this point I ran out of talent and managed a spin! This dropped me to 7th but after a couple of slower laps I managed to get up to speed again and finished 5th overall.
Once again the car handled superbly on this fast flowing track. A great weekend of racing and good fun socialising – what more can you ask for?
