Donington Park 2013 Mike Turner
After drying out from the last race at Brand Hatch it was my turn to run in the Sports 2000 Championship race at Donington last weekend. This would be my last event of the year so I was intent on enjoying the weekend. It s a long time until next April.
Qualifying was held on a wet but drying track. Conditions were very difficult with very little grip at all. I managed to survive with everything in one piece after a very tricky session. Fortunately things dried out for the race, the sun came out and the track was in good condition. I made a poor start losing 2 or 3 places at the first corner. However once I got going I was able to enjoy a good race with Pete Williams and Dave Croft. I managed to get past them both with my MCR handling very well. Our scrap meant that I had lost touch with the next group up ahead and had a pretty lonely race but realy enjoyed the circuit. At the end of the race I managed to win the Derek Bell class and the car had run very well once again.
This year has been very enjoyable with good reliability and good performance from the car. Even the driver managed to put in the odd good drive!
John will be driving the car at Brands for the last event in October and then a long winter looms ahead.
Many thanks to Clive, Cindy, Ken, Anthony and Scott at MCR for all their help and encouragement. It has been a good season. Derek Bell class
