Cadwell Park – 13th May 2012 – Driver Mike Turner
At last it was time for me to go racing again. The winter seemed to last forever and with limited racing in 2011 I was keen to get going. John and I had a good day at Pembrey in March to shake away the cobwebs but Cadwell was to be my first proper run this year.
We arrived at Cadwell for testing the weather amazingly being dry but very cold. After a few laps in the car I realised just how out of practice I was. I really struggled to get the best out of the car. However after a couple more sessions I began to get to grips with things and the car felt good although my times were not quick enough. Patrick very kindly agreed to run the car for a few laps and this confirmed the car was fine and the driver needed tuning! Qualifying on Sunday proved much better. I found about 2 seconds and qualified reasonably ok.
I was starting to enjoy driving again. At the start I gave it too many revs and sat there spinning wheels! In addition the cars in front seemed slow away so I dropped a couple of places. This was the cue for a fantastic race with Paul Martin also in an MCR. We battled for the whole race and I was lucky to just pip him to the flag. A good race in the end. This was my first full race since September 2010 and it felt like it. I was struggling with my neck muscles towards the end of the race. Anyway, a good weekend with the car running very well and handling superbly on this demanding circuit.
