2014 27 April – Round 1 – Silverstone GP – Patrick Sherrington
Sports 2000 Duratec Championship Round 1 Silverstone GP Circuit 27th April 2014
Having had rain all weekend I was glad to see it would be dry for the first qualifying session of the 2014 season. Clive had put a few more upgrades over the winter on the new car and I was keen to try them out properly in the dry having had wet for both the initial test sessions.
The car was working really well and although the track was slow due to the overnight rain we were soon on pole some 2 seconds in the lead.
I came in to check the car over and went again for another flying lap and was joined by Nick Bates in the Lola. Nick was really flying through the quick sections and I was interested to see his times. I didn’t have long to check as a puncture put paid to the session but delighted to be on pole with Tom Stoten in second place and Nick Bates going well in third.
The start was delayed due to John Owen parting company with his drive shafts on the warm up lap having qualified a fine 4th in his MCR. This seemed to unsettle the other cars on the front row as when the red lights went out I shot into the lead and was not challenged into Copse as I expected to be. The first lap I went flat out and managed to pull a gap to second of just over 2 seconds which was fantastic. I managed to maintain this pace despite a slightly soft brake pedal from the second lap.
I continued to push and built up a solid gap which I managed to maintain as the race continued and I started to lap the Pinto and Crossle cars toward the end.
First win of the year Great Result!
Thank you to Clive and Cindy at MCR, Scott “Data” Davies, Ken, and of course the great support from Alan, Tina and the Team at ADI Group.
And to Tom and Liv Kearns at Fresh and Lush, people are still raving about those cakes!
Pole, Win, Fastest Lap
